Coyotes Bid Farewell to Captain

Doughty Traded to Vegas Baby! Vegas!
7/26/2023 • Justin Stocks

The Coyotes granted Doughty's wish to be traded to a contender.  Their longtime captain was the face of the franchise.  He is tied for games played with 162 games, is their all-time goals leader with 36 goals.  His 86 assists are more than double the 2nd player on their all-time list, and the same is true for his point total.  In fact, he holds the all time records for the Coyotes in every major category.

When asked why the trade, GM Juice Stocks had the following to say, "It's a sad day.  But at the end of the day, we knew we weren't close to being a contender.  Doughty saw the direction we were heading, and the overhaul in the rebuild this off-season.  He was upset.  He's a competitor and wants to win.  He said he'd do whatever it took to help this team get to the next level.  I told him we could try to send him to a contender.  He specifically asked for a few teams, but those didn't materialize.  At the end of the day, he was very excited to join the Vegas Golden Knights.  As for the return, with his salary, I think that may have been the best we could have gotten prior to the free agent market opening up.  A lot of teams are up against, or even over the cap right now, and those teams just didn't have room for him.  This move opens up a spot for a younger guy to step up and hopefully, prove that he belongs.  We wish Doughty the very best, and hope he enjoys his time with Vegas".
