Changes are coming to the way we pay our players starting in 2026. For those of you who haven't been here long enough there was a time when money actually played a vital role in team management. A successful team could falter because of finances and there was plenty of cash involved in trading. Now that we're all rich billionaires money has become insignificant. Our current pay raise system no longer works within our current framework and so changes are necessary. Beginning at the end of the 2025-2026 season, free agents (RFA/UFA) will be payed based on a OV chart system.
This means your free agent player will receive an automatic pay raise or pay cut depending on his OV stat. This simplifies the process and doesn't just give everyone a raise irregardless of performance. There will be a different pay structure for forwards, defense, goalies and UFA's over 35 years old. We don't have the exact numbers figured out yet and they will fluctuate from year to year based on the rerate package we choose. Nevertheless, it is important for everyone to understand that players will be more expensive starting next season. Try to plan accordingly as you submit your bids for free agency this weekend.
We hope that this change will create a more realistic experience while simplyfing the process for everyone and have the added effect of boosting available players at free agency. Steve will post an example of the chart to give everyone a rough idea of what to expect next off season.
