99 Problems

6/20/2024 • Remi Rainville

If you're having roster issues I feel bad for you son, I've got 99 problems and a playoff spot ain't one.  After winning the cup in 2023 and bringing back the same roster it seemed inevitable that the Montreal Canadiens would have a great shot at a repeat in 2024.  Sadly, Montreal played in the toughest division ever seen.  The Habs finished the season with 99 points and still missed the playoffs.

It was a tough pill to swallow.  The team was playing very well but the Florida Panthers were playing crazy good hockey and there was only one playoff spot left with the trade deadline looming.  GM Rainville took the bold decision to admit defeat and make the difficult decision to give up on the season.  Many deals were made at the deadline to try to rejuvinate a team that has been "all in" for the cup for four years.

The time for a rebuild has come.  Habs fans can relax knowing that they're still fresh off a cup win and that GM Rainville can return this team to glory while still putting out a competitive group every night.  That being said, the cupboards are bare and the team only has two picks in the upcoming draft.  It will be some time before the Habs winning the cup is a possibility rather than a memory.
