The Detroit Press
The Detroit Red Wings entered this season as one of the bottom dwellers of this league. Not too much excitement was expected from the fans with not many bonafide stars on this Wings roster.
Coach Blashill knew he had little to work with, but this team started off surprising a lot of people in their first 20 games. Sitting at 500 with a 10 and 10 record things were looking positive but things fell apart shortly after, but when your 2 leading scorers are defensemen, what you expect.
This team has some pieces set in place with last year’s rookie of the year winner Moritz Seider looking phenomenal this year. At the 50 game mark he currently has 14 goals and 36 assists for 50 points. At a point per pace, fans are hoping he can get close to the 100 point mark, something that hasn’t happened to this franchise since the best defensemen ever to play this game Lidstrom suited up.
His defensive partner Hronek who was on the trade block earlier this season has been nothing short of awesome. Also putting up 14 goals to go along with 28 helpers. The back end of this team looks to be in good hands for a long time.
At the forward position rookie Jack Quinn has looked pretty solid posting 28 points and hoping to crack the 40 point mark.
In net Greiss has kept this team in games most nights with a 15-14-1 record. What a signing he’s turned out to be. He might be playing himself into a new contract.
The Wings will hope to build around their future stars and turn this franchise around to being one of the most feared ones they use to be.
