For our third round of voting we present the Vezina Trophy. The Vezina is awarded to the goalie who is deemed best at his position. Here are your nominees:
1. Robin Lehner - Florida Panthers
Lehner played the most games of our three candidates having participated in 69 this season. He recorded 45 wins with 3 shutouts. His 1.99 goals against and 9.12 save percentage helped the Panthers finish first in the overall standings. He also recorded 6 penalty minutes.
2. Frederik Andersen - Toronto Maple Leafs
Pavel Francouz had amazing numbers this season for the Leafs but only played 17 games so he does not qualify for this award. Thankfully, the Leafs had two amazing goalies to chosse from this year. Andersen carried the load playing in 65 games. He recorded 43 wins finishing with the league's third best GAA at 1.98 and the best save percentage at 91.94%. Toronto finished tied in points with the Panthers this season and Andersen played a huge roll in that with his 9 shutouts.
3. Jake Oettinger - New Jersey Devils
Oettinger only played 59 games this season but still managed 37 wins with a crazy 11 shutouts. That's 1 in 6. He also had the league's second best GAA at 1.93. His 91.58 save percentage puts him second overall. The Devils shocked the league this year when they catipulted up the standings finishing 4th overall and making it to the Eastern Conference final. Without Oettinger's superhuman effort this would not have been possible.
