Seattle Kraken Get their man

6/21/2021 • Bob McKenzie

The Man For The Job

The Seattle Kraken named Rod Gofenko the first General Manager in franchise history on June 21, 2021.  Gofenko brings an acclaimed skill for evaluating TUFHL caliber talent and his renowned hockey IQ will determine the franchise's style of play.

"After three months of due diligence, research, conversations, interviews and evaluation, we are thrilled to announce Rod as our GM," said NHL Seattle CEO Tod Leiweke.

Members of the press were shocked to learn last week that Edmonton had given Seattle permission to interview Gofenko as he was the Oilers Gm up until late last night.

Daryl Katz was reached last night via a Zoom call and had this to say,

“We decided to give Rod the opportunity to talk to Seattle as we felt we wanted to move in a new direction as early as this summer, Rod has had an impact on our organization and we wish him well in Seattle.”

"Rod's GM potential goes back 20 years to the original TUFHL... He still has lots of hockey in him and will not disappoint. In fact, I think he will have Seattle contending within two years

  Kirk Blake, Colorado Avalanche GM

Rod is an intelligent manager who knows the kind of players he wants. He will draft and acquire players with a high-hockey IQ who understand how to play together, think a couple plays ahead and know the right way to play the game. He looks for players with high-level skills, such as skating, puck protection and stick-handling."

Rod is the perfect fit for the team we are building. Rod will make everyone better."

--- Tod Leiweke, CEO, NHL Seattle
