The Krakens have launched their Team with the signings of two of the best coaches available. Life — especially in hockey — moves fast.
“Dominique Ducharme is an experienced and well-respected coach with a good knowledge of the Seattle market. Dominique has been very successful as an NHL coach and he has been to the Stanley Cup Finals. Today we hired the best available coach, and one of the League's best” said GM / President Rodney Gofenko.
Ducharme, 48, took the role of interim head coach of the Habs on February 24, 2021. He served as an assistant coach for two seasons under Claude Julien. After taking over, the Canadiens posted a 15-16-7 record in the regular season. It wasn’t great, but it was his postseason run that stood out.
“Dominique has managed to set his system in place and establish himself as a head coach in a very unusual season with challenging circumstances. While the Habs went through its fair share of adversity, he has shown a lot of control over the situation as well as showing calm and great leadership. These are important qualities that we look for in a head coach and he fully deserves the chance to lead our team and take it to the next level” Gofenko goes on.
The Kraken’s have also brought in Dean Evason who’s past experience in Milwaukee did seem to be a factor in this decision, in a roundabout way. Evason had coached with Minnesota after being named an Assistant Coach on June 6, 2018. He joined the Wild after spending six seasons (2012-18) as Head Coach of the Milwaukee Admirals in the American Hockey League (AHL), leading the team to a record of 242-161-53 (.588). Prior to serving as the Admirals Head Coach, Evason spent seven seasons as an Assistant Coach with the Washington Capitals (2005-12). During his tenure with Washington, the Capitals went 294-206-74 (.576) and claimed four straight Southeast Division titles, advanced to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in his last five seasons (2008-12) and won the 2010 Presidents' Trophy. Prior to joining the Capitals, the Flin Flon, Man., native spent six seasons as a Head Coach in the Western Hockey League (WHL). Evason served as co-coach of the Calgary Hitmen in 2004-05, head coach of the Vancouver Giants for two seasons (2002-04) and Head Coach of the Kamloops Blazers for three seasons (1999-02).
Many believe the Krakens have set themselves up with great leadership for their upcoming season.
Now the real work begins…..
