Red Wings 22'

Outlook
2/2/2022 • Francisco Valle

It's been a rough season so far for the Detroit Red Wings as they currently sit 13th in the conference and 23rd in the whole league. Expectations weren’t high going into the season so it’s not a huge surprise.

It will take a few seasons to see the plan that GM Valle has for the Wings, it will be a huge task with not many pieces in the system but they are getting there.

Forwards

The Wings have a mix of veterans and players in their prime. Leading the way is Captain Dylan Larkin followed by Tyler Bertuzzi. These 2 will be relied upon in a huge way if the Wings are ever to get out of leagues basement in the standings.

Also in the mix are fellow forwards Michael Rasmussen, Joesph Veleno and Filip Zadina. The jury is still out on these 3 but if they can put things together it should help the wings with a strong top 9 down the road.

Forward Prospects

Jack Quinn – After being a high 1st round pick in the previous draft the Wings are hoping he helps speed up the rebuild. Jack Quinn who should turn out to a be a speedy sniper will be god sent if he pans out.

Others to look out for : Brendan Brisson : Jonatan Berggren : Albin Grewe

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Defenders

Not much here to brag about except Filip Hronek who has been a workhorse in the backend. There are a couple of youngsters who will be given every chance to crack the top 6 in guys like Gustav Lindstrom, Wyatt Newpower, and Jared McIssac.

Defensive Prospects

Moritz Seider – This guy has been nothing short of amazing in the NHL and should give the Wings a right handed shooting defender for many years to come. This guy was considered the best prospect not in the NHL last season and he is showing why.

Others to look out for : Antti Tuomisto : Albert Johansson : Luke Prokop

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Goaltending

Nothing to brag about here as the Wings are sitting on a couple of veterans until their next heir comes through the system or via trade.

Goaltending Prospects

The Wings have 2 solid prospects in Keith Petruzzelli and recent 2nd round pick Joel Blomqvist. If none of these guys turn out to be a solid goaltending the Wings rebuild is definitely going to take a lot longer then suspected. If that is the case GM Valle will for sure have to take one with a high draft pick or trade for one to make sure the rebuild stays on course.

Trades

To Toronto : Darren Helm

To Detroit : Pierre Engvall & Tor’s 7th round pick

This was more of moving out a veteran player and replacing him with someone younger and more so adding a draft pick to help speed up this rebuild.
