No Need for Panic

5/25/2022 • Stefan Fancey

With a disappointing first season for new GM come and gone, Is there a need to panic in Leafs Land?

A strong offensive showing by the leaders Matthews and Nylander, with good secondary scoring by Staal, Kessel and Teraveinen. Where the Leafs fall short was on the defensive end. Yes players like Rielly, Muzzin, Mayfield put up some good offensive numbers, Their Defensive numbers where some of the worst in the league.

Bottom 6 players on defense as well as offense just could not find their stride this season. All kinds of scoring, but majority of it was for the opposing team. 3 players in the bottom 6 with a +/- os -20 or lower,  superstar defenseman Morgan Rielly, leading defense in poits also had a -19 in this category.

Another big struggle was goaltending. After the shocking trade that sent Campbell out and Talbot in, things didnt get any better for the blue and white. Yes he did go 13 - 7 - 2, but a goals against of 3.58 and a save % only 88.7 is only good enough for 3rd string on a contending team.

Look for management to make some big moves this off season starting with the draft to make next season better than this last one.
