NJ has had a rollercoaster season. Last offseason the GM turned a top 5 contender into a certain rebuild. The roster has slowly deteriorated day by day to the point there aren't many NHLers, or players of any value, left behind. The NJ GM has made it well known he is open to selling any of this remaining talent so long as his team remains within salary cap constraints.
Let's look at who is available:
1) David Krejci - 74 OV center making just 650k as a pending retirement. A player who is certainly a middle six center at this point in his career, he still has the skill and experience to make a true impact to a contender.
2) Ben Chiarot - 73 OV defenseman making 3.5 mil as a pending UFA. Easily an upgrade to most bottom pairings. NJ has around 2 mil cap space and would need some salary back along with some mid tier futures piece.
3) Nate Schmidt - 71 OV defenseman making 5.5 mil as a pending UFA. NJ would definitely need a cap dump in return and a mid to low tier futures piece.
4) Taylor Hall - 74 OV forward. Wild card due to NHL injuries this season. Signed a few more seasons at 6.9 mil so may likely remain in NJ unless the other team has a hefty cap dump in return for this sizeable top 6 upgrade.
