NJ Devils with a wild future after a wild trade deadline

3/11/2024 • Alex Devils

The NJ Devils wrapped up a busy trade deadline last night. 6 trades in 3 days and some challenging cap management was necessary. Out? Taylor Hall, Ryan Suter, Logan Thompson, Ben Chiarot, Pierre Bellemare, and Nate Schmidt. In came Casey DeSmith, Evgeni Malkin, and Evgenii Dadonov.

After the deadline, the roster is definitely built for a top draft pick with an eye towards the future.

NJ now has:

12 1st round picks, 7 2nd round picks, 3 3rd round picks, 2 6th round picks, and 4 7th round picks in this upcoming draft. If the scouts can’t rebuild the franchise with this arsenal they should find new jobs.

All in all it looks like the Devils GM has a lot of options going forward! Whether a long painful rebuild or a quick retool by flipping assets, it is one that will keep fans invested!
