After the win against Anaheim yesterday, the Columbus Blue Jackets have played 35 games and sit in 29th place - overall; and last in the Eastern Conference. There have been a few players that, it was known, were available for a deal. V. Tarasenko and P. Holmberg were two of these players. Last week, both of these were shipped out.
Out of nowhere, it was the Edmonton Oilers that inquired about Tarasenko and offered Alex Wennberg in return. A deal that seemed work for both teams. Easy to say yes, and thank you to the GM of the Oilers for making things so easy.
Next to go was P. Holmberg. Columbus and Buffalo have had discussions in the past, but this time - things worked.
Lastly... a big trade with Montreal. The Canadiens were looking for a top defensemen and inquired about alternate Captain - Z. Werenski. Columbus was reluctant in trading Werenski, but Montreal had the required pieces... after some back and forth, a deal was able to get done. The Blue Jackets wish the best to Werenski; thank you for your dedication and patience to the team. Montreal is getting a good player. A good leader.
Kent Johnson and a bunch of 2026 draft picks was the return.
