When the Columbus Blue Jackets hired Todd Pizzati as their new General Manager, many in the hockey world anticipated John Tortorella would be replaced behind the bench once the off-season arrived. A few months later, Tortorella still has his job and is still pushing a disciplined, defensive game with his team posting the 4th best goals against in the league to show for it.
The overachieving Blue Jackets are riding a 4 game win streak and find themselves sitting 14th in the league after posting a 7-3-0 record in the last 10 games. With only 109 goals through 32 games, the offensive side leaves a lot to be desired but their PP% sits 5th in the league at 25.54% and Seth Jones is having an All-Star season while leading the team in points with 37 points through 32 games.
In the biggest trade since GM Pizzati took over the club, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Trey Fix-Wolansky were sent to the Coyotes in exchange for Troy Terry, Connor McMichael, Henrik Borgstrom and ARI 2nd 2022. GM Pizzati had this to say at the time, "Pierre-Luc was a valuable piece to our puzzle but we couldn't pass up acquiring the package offered, especially with Troy Terry involved. We're going to be patient while we build a contender through the draft and expect Troy, Connor and Henrik to be a part of our success in the future."
The Blue Jackets have 4 more points than the Golden Knights so far this season.
