Black Friday in Montreal

11/28/2024 • Remi Rainville

Things got crazy pretty quickly in Montreal.  Teams seemed uninterested in the veterans GM Rainville was offering until Bo Horvat was traded.  Suddenly it was clear that anyone and everyone was available on the roster and the offers started coming.  The biggest hurdle to overcome was salary.  Trying to sell off assets while gaining in salary is a challenge but thanks to some patient and flexible trading partners, the Habs have managed to do just that.  Montreal is still open for business with veterans like Tanev, Markstrom and Zuccarello likely to draw some attention from contenders.  Montreal has four picks in the first two rounds and Rainville is notorious for avoiding the draft so expect those picks to get packaged in another trade that brings in youth today, to help tomorrow.
