The Beast and Least in the East
3/3/2022 • Chuck McMinn

ON TO THE BEAST AND LEAST IN THE EAST

Carolina – Leading the East, GM Nick is out to prove once and for all that youth is smarter.  With Multiple players looking to test FA, Tuukka set to retire, Nick knows this is “HIS” time.  Having all his picks and a good prospect pool, look for Nick to make some strong moves.  The Canes come in at a+750.  Having a CAP space of 2.9, look for him to move Staal and assets for an upgrade.  BUYER

Washington – Hot on the Canes with 2 games in hand, the Caps look set for a deep run.  Is there enough there to get it done?  Sporting the best save percentage and penalty kill, the Caps come in at +800.  They say defense wins Championships, but with an average power play, look for the Caps to move out some D for a little more power.  BUYER

Florida – Leading the Atlantic, the Panthers come in at +1200.  Having two top 10 D in scoring that represents 144 points in their 217 goals, but only 2 forwards in the top 75, tells me they need some more firepower.  The GM-less Panthers having a 6.6 million CAP space to play with, will be looking to add.  Will a new GM get here in time?  BUYER

New York – The Rangers come in at a +1750.  GM Steph having 4.7 CAP space and the Best rated Goalie tandem in the league and a strong D core, he will be looking to upgrade his Forwards.  Having rode on GM Nick’s coat tails for years, GM Steph finds himself in uncharted waters.  Stand Pat

Tampa Bay – Last year’s Cup Finalist is showing signs of fatigue.  Coming in at +1900.  Don’t count out the Lightning.  The team knows how to win.  With an abundance of UFA’s, one would think Randy is looking to package to upgrade.

BUYER/ SELLER

Montreal – The “ALL IN” Canadiens come in at +3100.  GM Remi has sold the farm.  Having a 1.2 CAP space and limited assets, it is hard to determine what the Remster will do.  Much like Gm Shaun of the Sharks, look for Remi to be actively buying, selling and staying pat.  !???!

The Rest:

In the Free – for – All East

Columbus – With 19.4 Cap to spend, Fan favorite Bjorkstrand or Ryan Murray may be packaged to get an upgrade.  BUYER

New York Isles – The Islanders with all kinds of CAP space will be looking to acquire.  Cap friendly Thomas Greiss may be on the move to a contender for assets.  SELLER

Philadelphia – New GM Wolf has cleared CAP to make 10.9 available with the moving of Mark (Alexander Ovechkin) Psysk.  With an abundance of  good UFA’s, look for the Fly guys to be giving VET for multiple depth upgrades to make a run.  SELLER

Pittsburgh – The GM-less Pens with 3.5 CAP space may be taken over too late.  If acquired, Cap friendly Holl and Janmark come to mind as contender help. SELLER

Toronto – “Same Ol’ Leafs.” The Nation would like a run at the Cup.  It ain’t gonna happen.  GM Stefan made an honest attempt but with UFA’s Muzzin and Spezza looking tasty, look fort him to rake it in.  SELLER

Boston – V. V.’s B’s have struggled all year.  As GM Vince had previously stated, not making the playoffs might change the mindset of the management. Look for the Bruins to keep the faith.  Stand Pat

New Jersey – Alex’s upstart Devils.  Having the talent, but not the consistency, GM Alex, much like GM Stocks will do what is best.  Stand Pat

The Battle for the Top 5 picks

Detroit, Ottawa And Buffalo (Americas team), will do what they can to build on their future without disrupting the Franchise.  SELLERS

It is the consensus of the guild that the Cup this year will be played in:

Colorado and Carolina with the Avalanche repeating

MONTREAL because he is SOOOO GOOT!!!
